La Tresenta is a great little training and acclimatisation climb above the Vittorio Emanuele Hut in the Gran Paradiso National Park.

From the hut, a path leads up the moraine and onto the glacier to the foot of the peak. The climb itself is a steady ascent on snow in early season, with the route drying out as the summer progresses. This is a quiet summit and it’s not unusual to have it all to yourself – from the top, great views unfold to the nearby South Face of the Gran Paradiso and the North Face of the Ciarforon. It’s a relatively short day, so there’s usually time for some skills training on the glacier on the way to or from the hut.
